Finger food

Finger food

HISTORY

This concept was developed by Professor Charles Henri RAPIN within a geriatrics unit in the canton of Geneva (Switzerland). An approach originally carried out to promote the maintenance of nutrition in specialized units for Alzheimer’s disease. Indeed, this pathology complicates eating; it can even become a real ordeal when handling cutlery becomes too complex. A person with Alzheimer's disease can quickly become dependent on others to bring food to their mouth, causing additional suffering linked to loss of autonomy and self-esteem. In this context, the response of a Manger Main type diet appears effective in maintaining people’s autonomy.
