Portuguese Bifana Pork and Pepper Burger
Ingredients:
- 4-6 very thin pork cutlets
- 2 cloves of confit garlic
- 1 tablespoon of lard (or olive oil)
- 100 ml white wine
- 2 bay leaves
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 bell pepper (red or yellow)
- Salad leaves (or arugula)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation:
-
Marinate the pork:
- In a large bowl, combine the confit garlic (crushed), white wine, bay leaves, paprika, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
- Add the pork cutlets to the marinade, cover the bowl, and let it marinate for at least 2 hours (overnight for more flavor).
-
Prepare the peppers:
- Slice the bell pepper into thin strips.
- Heat a little lard or olive oil in a pan and sauté the peppers over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes until they are tender and lightly golden. Set aside.
-
Cook the pork:
- In the same pan, add a bit more lard or olive oil and cook the marinated pork cutlets over medium-high heat.
- Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until the cutlets are golden and cooked through. Remove from the pan and keep warm.
-
Assemble the burger:
- Warm the burger buns slightly.
- On the bottom half of each bun, place one pork cutlet, add the sautéed peppers, and top with some salad leaves for freshness.
- Cover with the top half of the bun.
-
Serving:
- Serve immediately with your favorite sauce (mayonnaise, hot sauce, or garlic sauce, for example).
Tips:
- For a stronger flavor, you can add other roasted vegetables like eggplant or zucchini.
- For extra crunch, add pickles or a bit of fresh cheese (like goat cheese).
- For a more traditional taste, you can grill the pork cutlets for a smoky flavor.
Enjoy your Portuguese-inspired burger!
